How Does Hypnosis Work?
How does hypnosis work?
Hypnosis is such a little known subject. It is often looked at as very odd, even scary or dangerous!
I’m here to dispel the myths.
I would like to tell what hypnosis is and what hypnosis isn’t.
Let’s start with what it isn’t:
Hypnosis is not mind control. If you don’t have the conscious desire to change no hypnotherapist in the world can force you or say the “right words”.
Hypnosis is not manipulation. Although it would be fun to be able to get other people to do what you want, it is impossible. Why? The subconscious mind has a moral filter that if something doesn’t sit right with you then no matter what anyone says it can not go past that filter.
Hypnosis isn’t just relaxation. Most people think hypnosis is used just to relax. Although we access the meditative state, hypnosis is WAY more than just relaxing. It is a technique used to shift deep behaviors, addictions, and emotions.
What IS hypnosis?
Hypnosis is one of THE most powerful tools used for subconscious change. It accesses relaxation states (such as alpha and theta brain waves) on purpose to work with the deeper part of our mind – the subconscious. Working with the subconscious is so important because all of our automatic function comes from there. So in order to have rapid and deep change you have to work with the part of you that is stuck in a pattern.
Hypnotherapy is the treatment done while someone is in the hypnotic state.
Hypnosis is very safe. Again, it’s just accessing the meditative/hypnotic state to allow for easier recall within the subconscious.
Hypnosis has many techniques that are all powerful alone, yet combined are even more amazing! The subconscious mind is not literal, it “thinks” in a very abstract way, therefore the use of visualization and imagery is very strong for healing. Suggestion therapy is like the use of affirmations yet, of course, even deeper because they are instilled in the subconscious. Regression therapy, my favorite, goes into the childhood memories to relieve the stuck emotions from the moment they began.
Hypnosis can be done on anyone. Often I hear that not everyone can be hypnotized. It is not the truth. Some people are harder than others.
Hypnosis has many applications. It is most famous for smoking, weight loss, and stress relief. Yet, more and more it is being used for sadness, anxiety, PTSD, diseases, confidence issues, and eating disorders.
Hypnosis is incredible and fascinating. Exploring the mind isn’t scary; it is very beautiful. Releasing the past isn’t a burden, it should be a necessary thing that we ALL learn how to do.
